Of course, technology is amazing. There is definitely a place and time to use technology for communication. There is also a need to remember the human side of communication, whether communicating face-to-face or online.
Constant use of technology can desensitize us to the human needs of our customers and our co-workers. A team member who is used to autocorrect and emojis may not be able to have an actual conversation with another human. Another team member may be unable to function without the cell phone in hand constantly.
If we are always somewhere else, in the words of MIT professor and author Sherry Turkle, how can we effectively reach the people in the room with us?
